Welcome to the online home of UF Hillel!
It is very easy to get involved with UF Hillel. You can join us for one of the many events offered each week, come for Shabbat services and/or FREE dinner on a Friday night, kick back and enjoy our Sports Lounge with our 64 inch plasma screen, catch a movie, or just chill out and meet other students around the building.
At the beginning of each semester, UF Hillel hosts several large and intimate programs to welcome students back to campus. These often include concerts, live comedy performances, parties, dinners, and activity fairs. These are all terrific opportunities to connect with fellow students and UF Hillel staff. By exploring your Jewish options on campus, you can select what interests you the most and how and where you want to get involved. Some students pursue multiple endeavors through UF Hillel, while others focus on one area that especially appeals to them. And other students prefer to access the myriad of Jewish organizations on campus as they do more secular organizations, several at a time. It’s your choice, and you can even create your own program, with support from student leaders and UF Hillel staff!
How do I get involved?
The best way to get involved is to be informed, so please join our mailing list now and indicate your specific interests. You can call us at 352-372-2900 or you can contact a UF student directly at manoa@googlegroups.com.
Any student on campus can participate in UF Hillel sponsored events. There are no membership fees and students are encouraged to plan and/or attend as little or as many programs and activities as they wish. Programs are supported by Parents, Alumni and the Jewish community of Gainesville. If you have an idea for a program or would like to find out about leadership opportunities, please click here.
The UF Hillel is more than a building; it is your home away from home for the next four years. We’re excited to meet you!

Israel in Your Backyard - Garden
In the 2008-2009 school year, UF Hillel set out on a mission to educate students at the University of Florida about a side of Israel rarely seen by creating a yearlong initiative to educate students about Israel’s contributions to the environmental movement. The culmination of the initiative is the creation of this garden. The goal of the garden is to show students firsthand the Israeli technology being used in their own backyard. With the help of the Israel Campus Coalition Israel Advocacy Grant Project and support by the AVI CHAI Foundation, we are able to make this dream a reality. Students in a UF Landscape Design course were charged with an assignment to create their vision of the garden which stands before you. The garden includes native Israeli plants such as the pomegranate and fig tree and utilizes Israeli technology such as the drip irrigation. This garden is a small footprint of Israel’s long path of continually improving how we live with the environment.
But the work is not over. We have plans to expand the garden over the course of this year, so if you're interested in getting involved email Naomi Fireman (naomifireman@gmail.com).

Each generation presents itself as both a challenge and a dynamic opportunity to Jewish survival. The "Jewish response" to our surrounding world is what constructs our collective Jewish identity. Whether it be viewing the world of technology, business, spirituality, health or the environment; the Jewish perspective seeks to find meaning and relevance to our life. It is this passion for discovering and articulating our human expression that fuels the creative Jewish spirit. It is this contribution and commitment to the human drama that defines the character and mission of the Jewish people. It is this drive and vitality that can be understood as The Jewish Element - Ruach Chaim.
