Finding Philanthropy With "The Miami Heat"
The University of Florida Hillel has given me so much over the past few years.
This year I had the pleasure of going on Career Up Now with UF Hillel, and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made during my undergraduate career. We had the opportunity to network with a group of Jewish professionals from the Fort Lauderdale area. Going in, I was skeptical that there would not be any industry leaders, related to the field I am pursuing. However, I met many professionals that I am currently in contact with, about potential internships. I did not realize that these professionals would have ties all over Florida. They have now connected me with individuals, in my home city of Tampa. I really appreciated the way Career Up Now related the networking we were doing, back to our Jewish values that connect us all. It became very clear to me that these are the values I want to integrate into my career.
Whatever I do, I want to make sure that I am giving back and helping others.
For example, when we toured The Miami Heat arena, one of the questions I asked their CFO was if they use their overwhelming success to help others in need. His answer was very genuine and positive. It reminded me that it is important not to lose sight of your values when superficiality tries to move in.
I also really enjoyed our giving circle workshop were able to talk about the importance of philanthropy and vote for an organization to donate to, on UF Hillel’s behalf.
Lastly, I enjoyed our visit to a local synagogue for Shabbat, Friday night and lunch at Chabad Saturday morning. The incorporation of spirituality gave me the opportunity to really reflect on the experience, and on life.
I was happy to represent UF Hillel on this trip, and I am thankful I can represent UF Hillel as an intern. I started this internship a year ago. UF Hillel has become a second home for me, and I look forward to continuing this journey as I try to give back all that UF Hillel has given to me.
